GT500 Built in Honor of Carroll Shelby

At this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, Team Shelby –a collaboration of Ford and Shelby American, unveiled their one-off tribute to the late Carroll Shelby. The car, based on the 2013 Ford GT500 produces 850hp. The car’s appearance has been modified to reflect some of Shelby’s greatest cars, the Shelby Cobra and the Shelby Daytona. The rear of the car has been widened dramatically, and a hood scoop has been mounted to the car. Additionally, this special Cobra is painted in Guardsman blue and Wimbledon white – a color combination synonymous with Shelby cars.

According to Jim Farley, Ford’s group vice president for sales and marketing, “Even at 89 years of age, Carroll was an inspiration to us all,” says Farley. “This year marks the 50th anniversary of the original Shelby Cobra. This car represents the very idea he had about making the 2013 Shelby GT500 into a true Cobra.” Even in passing Carroll Shelby continues to leave his mark.

As mentioned, this is a one of a kind car, and Team Shelby plans to take it on a tour around the country before either auctioning it off, or stashing it in an automotive museum.
