The Swedish car company isn’t known for creating performance cars, Volvo is better known for building safe and reliable automobiles perfect for shuttling kids to soccer games and adults to train stations. But tuning company, Polestar has helped Volvo to create their second performance focused car in the last few years.
The Volvo C30 PCP was introduced in 2011, producing 400 hp the car marked a new collaboration with Polestar to create a performance line capable of competing with high performance sub-brands from Mercedes, Audi, and BMW.
The S60 Polestar is just a concept at this point, and is intended to show that Volvo is serious about grabbing a piece of the sports sedan market. Producing 508 hp and 454 lb-feet of torque the turbocharged inline 6 helps the Volvo reach 60 mph in about 3.9 seconds, and tops out at 186 mph.
Though presented as a concept car, keep in mind that the C30 PCP stared out the same way, and was later produced in limited quantities after it received high praise from the press. The Volvo S60 Polestar features no radical styling queues, just radically different performance figures for the typically conservative manufacturer. So it seems very likely that for a lucky few the S60 Polestar will be available for purchase, perhaps as soon as this summer.
