The company formally known as Shelby Super Cars, SSC, will produce five modified Ultimate Aeros to commemorate the company’s insanely fast American made hyper car. Deemed the Ultimate Aero XT, the car will produce 1300 hp thanks to a twin turbo V8 engine that tops out at 9200 rpm. SSC is known for leaving the waste gates on the turbos open, giving the engine a distinct noise of rushing air as the V8 gulps in air.
The engine comes from SSC’s new, and not yet released hyper car called the Tuatara, which the company hopes will be able to achieve a top speed of approximately 280 mph. A 7 speed paddle shift transmission is mated to the SSC Ultimate Aero XT’s power plant.
SSC claims the Ultimate Aero XT will reach 62 mph in just 2.65 seconds on its way to a top speed of 273 mph. Unlike the Hennessey Venom GT, which is a heavily modified Lotus Exige, the Ultimate Aero is built from the ground up using a carbon fiber monocoque tub and an aluminum crash structure.
