Honda and Acura To Unveil Crossover SUVs In Detroit

Honda, and luxury division, Acura have announced they are both planning to unveil a small SUV. The Honda SUV is being referred to only as an “Urban SUV Concept.” It seems likely the concept will feature Honda hybrid technology. Honda says the vehicle “is a global concept model combining a sporty and dynamic SUV profile with a spacious, functional interior.” It’s possible the concept SUV is intended to eventually replace the Honda Element, which went out of production in 2009.

Acura has said in a press release it too plans to unveil a new SUV at the Detroit Auto Show. Acura is calling the vehicle the “MDX Prototype,” a clear indication that what will be unveiled on January 14 will be the next generation Acura MDX. This newest version of the MDX will mark the third generation of the vehicle, and will be based on the Honda Pilot drivetrain.

Both the Honda Urban Concept SUV and the Acura MDX Prototype are being unveiled in Detroit because of the importance the American market plays in SUV sales for both automakers.
