Bentley has announced the arrival of the Continental GT Speed Convertible, the world’s fastest four seat convertible, capable of reaching a top speed of 202 mph. The Bentley GT Speed is powered by a W12 producing 616 hp and 590 ft-lb, which propel the car to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds.
The Speed moniker indicates that the Speed Convertible, along with the Speed Coupe are the sportiest of all the Continental GT variants. Both the Coupe and Convertible are powered by the same W12, though because the Convertible is nearly 500 lbs heavier than the Coupe it reaches 60 mph one tenth of a second slower, and can manage only 202 mph compared to the coupe’s 205 mph top speed.
An 8 speed automatic transmission is coupled to the 6 liter W12 engine, and as in all other Continental’s the GT Speed Convertible uses an all-wheel drive system with a 60:40 rear biased torque split to keep the car moving forward, regardless of the conditions.
The Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible is fitted with a dark tinted chrome front grille and large oval exhaust tips. The interior features a “Dark Tint Aluminium ‘engine spin’ finish, inspired by the dashboards of the Le Mans winning Bentleys of the 1920s.” To ensure that the driver can put the top down in chilly weather, Bentley has installed a “neck warmer” in the headrest that circulates warm air around the driver’s neck.
The Bentley Continental GT Speed Convertible will debut at the Detroit Auto Show on January 14.
