As any good car enthusiast knows, the Nurburgring has become a proving ground for sports car manufacturers of late. Its 150 plus corners, undulating turns, and fast straightaways make it an ideal place for car companies to show what their creations are capable of. Like the horsepower wars between 1960′s and 70′s muscle car makers, modern sports car manufacturers want to be able to say their car beat the competition around the ‘Ring.
Recently, Porsche announced it’s 918 super sports car lapped the Nurburgring in a blistering 6:57. McLaren released a video yesterday claiming that their super sports car, the McLaren P1, lapped the ‘Ring in under 7 minutes, though they have not specified the car’s precise lap time yet.
The video below shows the P1 traveling at ridiculous speeds around “green hell.”
